I was watching CNN and they ran a piece about a man from Idaho who legally changed his name to 'Pro Life' and plans on running for the Senate every two years for the rest of his life. Throughout the story he made asinine comments like, "People can laugh at my name all they want as long as they're not killing their babies."
I wanted to punch the television.
A fetus is not a living thing. You can not kill something that is not alive, that depends on something else to even survive in the first place. An embryo is a cluster of cells that has the potential to become a human being, but has not yet become one.

I found a bumper sticker on Facebook that says, "77% of abortion leaders are men. 100% of them will never be pregnant." Of course I had to have it. My opinion on this topic will never change, you can call me a murderer, or any other horrible name you can think of. The fact of the matter is, deciding to have an abortion is one of the most difficult decisions a woman will make in her life. For some, this is their only option. It's not something that is taken lightly, or done on a whim one day. It's a decision that is come to after a lot of tears, a lot of talking, and the realization that at this point in your life, having a baby is not feasible. Then to have someone like this trying to make you feel even worse about your decision than you probably already do, it is disgusting.
I've always said I would never live in a country where abortion was illegal. My way of thinking is, while I never thought it would be something that I could personally go through with, that decision was not up to anyone but the woman in said situation. No government should ever have the right or the power to tell it's citizens what they can and can not do with their bodies. Ever. There is nothing anyone can say to change that. The majority of women who have abortions do not use it as a form of birth control and anyone who makes that argument is completely lacking in intelligence. It is a incredibly painful procedure, followed by painful days and weeks, and no one would endure that constantly as birth control. The women I know who have had this done did not make the decision lightly, but did it because they had to. Whether it was for health reasons, because they were single, were the victim of rape, or any other reason, they did it because they HAD TO.
Do not ever tell me that women who choose to have abortions are selfish and shouldn't have had sex in the first place if they didn't want to deal with the consequences of their actions. You can do everything you're supposed to do in order to not get pregnant, but sometimes it's not enough. To expect people to just never have sex is unrealistic, despite all the Conservative Christians telling us that we're going to Hell because we're having sex before we're married. Sorry, that's just not the case. People make mistakes, it happens. It's not the job of anyone in this life to judge them for it. Whatever might exist beyond this life, that's when Judgement will come, so Pro Life and his supporters can keep all their opinions to themselves.
And by the way, the correct term is 'Anti-Abortion'. I'm assuming everyone alive on this planet is pro-life, seeing as how anyone living is probably in favor of it. At least make some sense instead of looking like a total ass hat.

Rockin post. Seriously. I read about that guy too. His platform for running is he wants to change the law books so doctors who peform abortions and women who obtain them can be charged with murder....
Yeah, good luck getting elected on that one. Most anti-abortion people don't even see things that way.
I know! I couldn't believe when I heard that, because it will be impossible for him to get that enacted, even if he were to somehow win the seat. In that article I posted with it, even other Conservatives were talking about how it's hurting their chances of getting ANY Reps on that seat now. That's a good thing though, of course.
Something that has to depend upon something else to survive cannot be alive?

Infants, then, are clearly not alive as they fully depend upon their mothers for survival. Leave the infant alone for days and it will surely die. It cannot support itself. The same could be said for toddlers.
Or, what about someone who has sustained incredible injuries and is only alive thanks to the heroic efforts of a medical staff? Without the aid, the person would die. She fully depends upon others for her survival.
Or the diabetic man who depends upon insulin for life? Without the insulin, he would not survive, for he depends upon it.
If dependency is the measure of humanity, than there are far more "entities" in this life parading around as humans who in fact are something other than human.
